GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FELLOWS PROGRAMME
Ekaterina Movsumova
Intro
Thank you for visiting my page, created especially to support my application to GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FELLOWS PROGRAMME. Thanks to your application process, I've spent few exciting hours, talking to myself about past achievements and future expectations. Thank you for that indeed!
I am from Russia — a country that has found itself isolated and is struggling to maintain an effective dialogue with the global community.

With years of experience as an executive at two leading independent business media outlets, Vedomosti and The Moscow Times, I have years of experience in helping to facilitate dialogue between consumers, business and government — even under the most difficult conditions. I have personally launched several media projects aimed at keeping communication channels open between Russia and the global community.

About myself
MOVSUMOVA
Media expert
With years of experience as an executive at two leading independent business media outlets, Vedomosti and The Moscow Times, I have years of experience in helping to facilitate dialogue between consumers, business and government — even under the most difficult conditions. I have personally launched several media projects aimed at keeping communication channels open between Russia and the global community.
How will the Global Leadership Fellows programme contribute to the achievement of my professional objectives?
I see my participation in the Global Leadership Fellows programme as the culmination of my 20-year-long career. My focus has always been to move companies forward through effective communication with projects that also contribute to society as a whole.

In Russia I founded the only foreign media award: The Moscow Times Awards. The goal was to create an event that would provide a platform for dialogue between the expat community and representatives of the business, diplomatic and cultural sphere.

For the business daily Vedomosti and The Moscow Times, I organized multiple events and published supplements on the specific topic of inter-country ties between Russia and other governments. If I were to join the WEF programme, it would open a door into a whole new world of international dialogue and give me unique access to a multicultural atmosphere that I would never be able to find at home. At the same time, I could be helpful in getting closer contacts with Russian businesses, government officials and media.

The communication sphere is facing big challenges: on the one hand the appearance of new technologies will drastically improve the quality of life, on the other there is the task of international cooperation on quality and safety control on its application.

I hope that the WEF's mission and the experience that I can gain from this programme will equip me with a global outlook and a whole range of instruments to help me move the world a step closer towards more transparency, the spreading of knowledge, and the safe use of revolutionary technologies in improving communication.

Event management
I have more than 15 years experience in Marketing & PR and comprehensive portfolio of organized local & international events. I have led the House of Russia during the WEF in Davos in 2012, 2013, 2016.
I would like to introduce below a story about one of my favorite events, created and produced by myself with my team.
The Moscow Times Awards
As publisher of the newspaper, which was founded right after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1992 as the only independent English-language newspaper in Russia, I oversaw a media outlet that was the primary news source for foreigners living in Moscow, but also saw its web traffic triple under my command as more and more people from around the world gained access to the source through the Internet.

The award brought together representatives of leading foreign media outlets as well as business figures and foreign diplomats in Russia. Officially, it was meant to highlight the best investment, infrastructure and social and cultural achievements that contributed to the development of Moscow and Russia as a whole. But it was much more than that: A diplomat once told me that, when relations between Russia and the West were at a low point over the crisis in Ukraine and Western sanctions, the Moscow Times Awards event provided an opportunity for free interaction and dialogue that was off limits in daily life. For me, that was the epitome of success.
The Moscow Times Awards
One of my proudest achievements is founding The Moscow Times Award in 2013 as publisher of the eponymous newspaper. To this day, the award is the only foreign media prize in all of Russia that recognizes the changes that take place in the capital in the business and cultural sphere through the eyes of foreigners.

Aside from my work, I am also a radio host on the "Capital FM" station, where I invite prominent foreign and Russian guests to speak about their business and cultural ventures.

Woman & Career
I give frequent interviews and talks to female audiences on how I manage to combine a successful career with my personal life. In Russia, gender roles tend to still be very traditionally defined and women often feel they have to choose between the two. Here is one of my TV interviews (available in Russian only)

If I could start my own project or initiative at the World Economic Forum,
what would it be and why?

At the WEF, I would be interested in developing the role of technology in communication by increasing the application of innovative tech B2C and B2B. Especially interesting is virtual reality technology in the sphere of education, which promises to revolutionize traditional ways of transferring knowledge. But the possibility of improving the quality of our communication with such technologies will affect all areas of our life: from daily decisions to communication between governments. I am a huge fan of such emerging technologies with revolutionary potential and want to contribute to its advancement but also to regulating its use on an international level so as to keep it secure and safe. I already have some experience in this field.

In 2015, I founded a business together with two partners, that organizes conferences incorporating virtual reality technology. By early 2017, we will have opened our first conference center in Moscow, where clients are offered tailor-made B2B solutions incorporating VR technology. Our Speech Centre will be the first virtual reality platform focused on corporate education.

At the WEF, I hope to explore new ideas as to how to apply such technology at an inter-governmental and international level.
